Simple Controls, Serious Access Control

Everything you need to keep your WordPress admin clean and focused for every person who logs in.

👤

Per-User Restrictions

Configure every administrator independently. What one admin sees has no effect on anyone else.

🔌

Top-Level & Submenu Control

Hide an entire menu section, or go granular and hide only specific submenu entries while keeping the parent visible.

👁

Visual Feedback

Checked items turn red with a strikethrough so it is always obvious what is hidden before you save.

🔒

Self-Protecting

The Settings menu is permanently protected. No one can accidentally hide AdminGate from themselves.

💚

Zero Footprint

No database tables. Restrictions are stored as standard WordPress user meta — nothing extra, nothing bloated.

🔌

Works With Any Plugin

AdminGate captures the full admin menu after all plugins have registered their items, so custom menus are included automatically.

Up and Running in 3 Steps

1

Install & Activate

Download the zip, upload it via Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, and activate.

2

Open Settings → AdminGate

Click any administrator in the left panel to load their current menu restrictions.

3

Check & Save

Check the items to hide, hit Save. Those menu entries disappear from that admin's sidebar immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this affect my own account?
Only if you configure restrictions for yourself. AdminGate applies to whichever user is selected in the settings panel — including yourself if you choose. The Settings menu is permanently protected so you can always get back in.
Can I hide items from editors or authors too?
The current version targets administrator accounts. Restrictions stored in user meta will apply to any user regardless of role if set directly, but the settings UI lists administrators only. Multi-role support is planned for a future release.
Does it work with custom menus added by plugins?
Yes. AdminGate captures the complete admin menu after all plugins and themes have registered their items, so anything that appears in the sidebar can be restricted.
What happens if I deactivate AdminGate?
All menus return immediately for all users. The restriction data stays in user meta but has no effect until the plugin is reactivated.
Is this multisite compatible?
AdminGate works on standard single-site WordPress installs. Full multisite network support is on the roadmap.
Does AdminGate send any data?
AdminGate sends a weekly anonymous ping to boulleytechnology.ca with your site's domain, WordPress and PHP versions, and plugin version. No personal data, no content, and no visitor information is ever transmitted. This helps us track active installs and prioritize updates.
